Residential
Aged Care

Let us help you understand the different costs and fees so you make informed decisions and access the suitable type of care you truly need.

Preparing for Admission

The Commonwealth Department of Social Services establishes the residency fees, which are determined by a resident’s assets and income.

The fees do not cover optional items and prescription medications. (Specific details are available upon request.) We send out a fortnightly bill to each resident to ensure their accounts are minimised.

The Government Charge Schedule can be found on the Australian Department of Social Services website.

Types of fees aged care residents may be asked to pay at Adventist Care:

  1. Accommodation Cost is for your accommodation in the home and ranges from $650,000 and $750,000 per room. The Australian Government may partially or fully pay for the amount if qualified.
  2. Basic Daily Fee covers living costs such as meals, power, and laundry. Some people only have to pay for this fee.
  3. Care Cost Contribution or means-tested care fee is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people may be required to pay. The Department of Human Services (Centrelink) will work out if you are required to pay this fee.

Residential Fees

When a person moves into residential aged care, there are some fees that need to be paid. These fees depend on your
personal circumstances, may be means tested, and usually are a combination of three main costs.

  1. Basic Daily Fee
Everyone in aged residential care pays a daily fee for everyday living costs.
This covers meals, cleaning, laundry services, heating / cooling, basic services. The rate is set by the government at 85% of the single aged care pension.
  2. Hotelling and Non-clinical Care contributions
If your income or assets exceed certain thresholds, you may be required to pay a hotelling contribution which goes towards the cost of daily living such as food, cleaning and utilities.
The Non-clinical Care Contribution (NCCC) is a means-tested daily fee that some residents entering permanent residential aged care pay towards the cost of non-clinical personal care. This includes services like bathing, mobility assistance and lifestyle activities.
  3. Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC)
The DAC is a fee paid by some lower means residents to cover the cost of their accommodation. A DAC is applicable to residents who are partially supported, meaning they have sufficient income or assets to contribute to accommodation costs but not enough to pay the full RAD.
  4. Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC)
A RAC is a lump sum payment to the aged acre provider that reduces or eliminates the amount of DAC payable.
The amount of the RAC is equal to (DAC x 365)/MPIR (Maximum Permissible Interest Rate). Even a partial RAC payment will reduce the DAC.
  5. Accommodation Costs
Your Centrelink “Fee Determination” letter will confirm if you are required to pay for the cost of your room. Depending on your personal circumstances, your room can be paid for in different ways.

Option A: Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD)

  • A lump sum payment (like a bond)
  • Refundable when you leave minus a deducted retention

Simple explanation: “You pay a large upfront amount and get it back later.”

Option B: Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP)

  • Paid daily instead of upfront

Simple explanation: You don’t pay a lump sum — you pay rent each day.”

Option C: Combination (RAD + DAP)

  • Part upfront + part daily

Simple explanation: “A mix of both to suit your finances.”

Allocation of a room in Arrana

Like most Residential Aged Care facilities, we manage separate waitlists as some rooms are allocated for residents who receive government accommodation support, and others are for residents paying the full accommodation cost.

To be placed on our waitlist you will need to provide your financial assessment, which determines whether you are fully paying, partially supported, or supported.

An offer of a room at Arrana then depends on availability of the type of accommodation you are eligible for, based on your financial situation.
